Lecture features Dr. Kimberly P. Johnson
老澳门六合彩官方开奖鈥檚 Black Studies Program is celebrating Women鈥檚 History Month with 鈥淲omanist Preaching: Speaking Truth to Power,鈥 a lecture by Tennessee State University鈥檚 Dr. Kimberly P. Johnson, on March 21, 2019.
The lecture, which is part of the Ralph Pruitt Lecture, Arts and Media Series, will discuss Dr. Johnson鈥檚 book, The Womanist Preacher: Proclaiming Womanist Rhetoric from the Pulpit, published in 2017. Her work dissects the rhetoric within womanist preaching, categorizes sermons under the four tenets of womanist preaching and creates models that reflect the sermons of radical subjectivity, traditional communalism, redemptive self-loveand critical engagement.
Dr. Johnson will be available for a book signing in the Howard A. Mims African American Cultural Center in Berkman Hall, room 137 from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Free and open to the public, the lecture begins at 6 p.m. in Berkman Hall, room 136. The event will then reconvene for a reception in the Howard A. Mims African American Cultural Center at 7:15 p.m.
Dr. Johnson is an associate professor of communications and women鈥檚 studies at Tennessee State University, where she currently serves as the assessment coordinator for the department. She teaches the senior project capstone, communication research methods, honors public speaking, fundamentals of communication, public speaking, persuasion and African-American rhetoric to undergraduate students. Dr. Johnson earned a Bachelor of Science in speech at Northwestern University, a master of divinity at McCormick Theological Seminary and a doctor of philosophy in communication and a graduate certificate in women鈥檚 and gender studies at the University of Memphis.
