ESL Continuing Education Course Descriptions

ESL 1500:  ESL Speaking & Listening 1 will provide extensive practice in speaking and pronunciation for the non-native speaker of English.  The focus will be on general conversation, intonation, stress, rhythm and individual pronunciation concerns. There will be an introduction to more formal speaking.  Each student will complete a diagnostic test to identify specific concerns and give a presentation.  This course will be geared toward an intermediate/advanced level of proficiency, it is not for beginners. Various handouts will be used in this course and will be available on the first day of class. This course meets for 2 hours one evening per week for 10 weeks. Tuition is available on the registration page. The ESL Program will provide placement testing.

ESL 1501: ESL Speaking & Listening 2 will provide extensive practice in speaking and pronunciation for the non-native speaker of English.  The focus will be on more formal and workplace conversation. A needs analysis will drive the amount of attention to intonation, stress, rhythm and individual pronunciation concerns. Each student will give two presentations. This course will be geared toward an advanced level of proficiency, it is not for beginners.  Various handouts will be used in this course and will be available on the first day of class. This course meets for 2 hours one evening per week for 10 weeks. Tuition is available on the registration page. The ESL Program will provide placement testing.

Customized workplace courses can be created and provided on campus or on-site. Diagnostic and needs analysis testing is provided at the beginning of the course. We have created programs for various levels of proficiency and for various needs ranging from general communication skills, responding to OSHA questions and presenting R&D information.
