Monitor Duties
Your computer lab is always staffed by a student lab monitor who's there to help you. While the lab monitors cannot do your homework for you, here's a list of things your monitor can help you with:
- Help logging on or off the lab computers
- Help saving your work for future use
- Help with elementary uses of the Microsoft Office applications, including:
- Word
- How to format a document
- How to insert page numbers
- How to insert a picture or chart
- How to spell-check a document
- How to import data from Excel
- Excel
- How to make a chart from data in a spreadsheet
- How to sort data in a spreadsheet
- How to export data into Word
- How to insert rows and columns
- PowerPoint
- How to start making a presentation
- How to specify slide transition characteristics
- How to add a slide into an existing presentation
- Word
- Keeping the printers stocked with paper and clearing minor paper jams and reporting major paper jams to technical support for clearing
- Clearing up debris left behind by thoughtless students
- Securing personal property left behind by forgetful students
- Reminding students in quiet-study labs to be considerate of neighboring students
- Monitoring lab equipment, reporting hardware and network problems
- Preventing or Reporting misuse of lab equipment by people in the lab
- Identifying and reporting building problems such as water leakage or power failure
